NRMAL is an arts collective and annual festival dedicated to supporting art and music that exist outside of the mainstream, with a focus in equating Latin American arts with that of their Anglo-European contemporaries.
NRMAL was born in 2007 in the city of Monterrey, Mexico out of a need to be part of a thriving community that celebrated emerging art, music, and other cultural expressions. In 2015, the festival relocated to Mexico City.
The festival is also well known for its commitment to championing diversity across sounds, geographies, gender, and more. It has the highest female representation (50%+) in Latin America’s festival circuit and has equated Latin American artists with that of their Anglo-European contemporaries. Many of these artists played for the first time in the region.
Latin-American artists such as Juana Molina, Lorelle Meets the Obsolete, Clubz, Little Jesus, Buscabulla, and Föllakzoid have played next to their contemporaries like Mac DeMarco, Grimes, Psychic TV, Kelela, Kali Uchis, and Death Grips. We like to keep it fun and experimental.
In 2020 we celebrated the 11th edition.
“NRMAL celebrates Latin otherness in a way few organizations do – providing spaces and platforms to emerging, unconventional Latin talent to showcase their work.”
